Urban Renaissance

Small towns in Scotland provide a valueable legacy. Our towns contain traces of thinking about how we have structured our built environment across the centuries. They also contain areas that are in decline, places that no longer work. The Scottish Renaissance Towns Initiative is an opportunity to explore what makes a well designed place in the 21st century small town. It is an opportunity to explore new forms of sustainable public space and public life, and how to work and rework the existing fabric of our towns. Through our work, and the resource of the the partnership, we will research some of these issues in greater detail. The aim of this research is to understand how the renaissance of Scotland’s small towns can contribute towards sustainable economic growth. This section provides and overview of some of the research propositions and findings.
